CHAOTIC PEACOCK EARRINGS
Artisan made blue, green and aqua enamel on copper earrings with apatite gemstone and sterling silver.
I'm having fun exploring the world of crackle enamel. When I started these I was hoping for the look of a peacock tail. Well the first go round was very dark and not looking anything like I intended so what is one to do? Well when I'm doing crackle enamel I add more color and keep on heating. So, in the end, the peacock tail got pretty chaotic with the crackle opening up the colors all over the place and me adding a few more colors on top just to spice things up. These have a shimmer base of dark blue, then there I added other shades of blue, some yellow and a bit of green. The beauty of crackle enamel is that there is so much depth in the glass. These have 7 layers of color melted on and the crackle enamel causes the top layers to open up to reveal the lower layers. Inside the opening hangs an apatite oval with some neat striations in a darker color. They are wire wrapped with sterling silver wire and are shown hanging from hook style, sterling silver ear wires. I can change to sterling marquise (V) style, niobium or surgical steel hook style ear wires if you prefer. They hang a bit over 1 5/8" (4.1 cm). I may be able to hang them on leverbacks or posts but I might need to add some rings to do that.
