WILD THISTLE EARRINGS
Artisan made soft, minty green and purple enamel and lampwork earrings with soft green and purple enameled copper, etched, green, gray and purple lampwork beads, amethyst, Burmese jade, copper and niobium ear wires
I do LOVE this color combination. I was inspired by the wild thistles that pop up here and there on slopes and in canyons around San Diego. The thistle leaves are a frosty, almost minty green and the flowers are so soft and have several shades of purple in them. There is quite a contrast between those nasty, spiky leaves and the soft, delicate flowers.
I started with a minty, willow green base on the enameled copper drops. Then I layered white and 2 shades of purple. I used crackle enamel so the layers separate out and form patterns that can't always be predicted. I do love how these turned out. They hang below artisan made beautiful, etched, baroque shape lampwork bicones. I framed them with copper spacers and faceted Burmese jade. Between them dangle gem grade amethyst and more Burmese jade on my handmade copper headpins. All are wire wrapped with copper wire and they hang from niobium ear wires. The earrings hang down for a total length of almost 3" (7.6 cm).
