PINK AND BLUE WITH A LITTLE RAKU AIR PLANT HANGER AND COPPER CHAIN
Artisan, handmade enamel on woven copper air plant hanger/planter with handmade copper chain with glass beads
It takes a bit of work to weave and enamel these planters, but the results are always fun to see. I start by cutting strips of copper and weaving them to create the planter. For this planter I started with pink liquid enamel, fired it in the kiln, added another layer, fired it again, added crackle and some turquoise, fired it again, dripped on some pink and did a final firing. Afterward I had to file off all the sharp edges and points. I then made chain with heavy gauge copper wire and added beads to match the planter. The plantar is 3" high and the full length when hanging on the chain is 17". It is not solid and I've never tested these with dirt and an actual rooted plant. I made a couple for my mom to use for her tillandsia air plants. They've been hanging outside, getting periodic water squirts and have survived a year. We don't get real cold here in San Diego, so I can't say how they would do in a real cold environment.
