NUGGETS AND RAKU EARRINGS
Artisan made raku enamel on copper squares, teal and blue lampwork nuggets, Swarovski crystals, copper and sterling silver ear wires.
I LOVE doing raku with enamels. It really gives the pyro in me a chance to have some fun! The raku on these turned out great with lots of colors and shimmer. You can see a slideshow of the process I use to make them here: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/674625219175184214/.
I first created these shimmery copper and teal raku'd squares. For the raku process you enamel the copper with glass that has copper in it, heat it up to red hot and, in this case, I took them out of the kiln and then sandwiched them in wet newspaper. The newspaper cools them off with very little oxygen and causes the shimmery metallic colors. I was happy I got some teal along with the shimmery copper color. These square drops went beautifully with these teal/blue/shimmery, cool patterned, artisan made lampwork nuggets. Copper caps and Swarovski crystals finish off the design. They are wire wrapped with copper wire and are shown on oxidized sterling hooks. I'll make some copper hooks since I think they'll look better on shiny copper ear wires, but you can also choose your preferred ear wire style/metal. They hang down about 2" (5.1 cm).
