NOW THAT'S A MAMMOTH EARRINGS

Handmade earrings with prehistoric, fossilized wooly mammoth ivory and purple AAA grade amethyst gemstone with gold fill ear wires

These beautiful, carved oval/melon beads are really made from prehistoric woolly mammoth ivory (you can read more about that below). They are so beautiful I wanted to keep things simple so I dangled them below beautiful, faceted, gem grade dark amethyst cubes. And since an ancient mammoth tusk bead and gorgeous amethyst deserve a fabulous accent I used gold filled wire. Purple and gold are such a perfect combination! They hang from gold filled shepherds hook style ear wires. The earrings hang down 1 3/4" (4.4 cm) from the top of the ear wire to the bottom of the last bead.

Amethyst is the February birthstone.

DESIGN ELEMENTS:
✥ AAA gem grade amethyst gemstones
✥ prehistoric woolly mammoth fossil ivory
✥ Gold filled beads, wire and ear wires
✥ Length: 1 3/4" (4.4 cm)

NOTE: What is pictured is the shepherds hook style ear wire in gold fill.  Please choose your preferred ear wire style.

More about the ivory (quoted from my supplier):
Prehistoric Woolly Mammoth Ivory (Mammuthus primigenius)
Prehistoric woolly mammoth ivory is anywhere from 10,000 to 200,000 years old, and is found in Arctic regions such as Alaska, Canada, Chukotka (or the Chuckchi Penninsula), Yakutia, Magadan and Siberia where the tusks have been preserved in the permafrost. This fossil material consists of hues of cream, tan, or chocolate brown.

These massive tusks are unearthed many ways: modern day gold miners dredge up mineralized remains in the course of placer mining activities, spring floods wash tusks from frozen river banks, bush pilots spot the huge tusks jutting out of the tundra, and Eskimo subsistence hunters find mammoth remains incidentally in their daily task of survival. Regardless of discovery, this mammoth ivory is mined in accordance with all applicable federal and state regulations.
